Impact of Collaborative Engagement on Teaching and Learning
Authentic Learning Through Multiple Perspectives and Collaboration
4 of the 9 elements highlighted by Herrington et al 2010, which came to the fore during the class activity, where all students had to present a proposal were (1) Articulation: through presentation of argument and thoughts, (2) Multiple Perspectives: considering the fact we are all from different backgrounds our contexts differ and this inevitably influenced our conceptualisation of the task given, (3) Reflection: while each student reflected on their work before it was presented, they had to reflect again afterwards after listening to others, (4) Collaboration: listening to other people's presentations and discussing afterwards provided joint problem solving and social support. See details of these elements in a previous post (Authentic learning).
The four elements as described by Jan Herrington are shown in the video gallery below

In this blog post, I will be reflecting on three (3) students' presentations, whose views influenced my work.
Presentation 1
Title: The use of Microsoft Teams to enhance communication and collaboration amongst high school teachers
Presenter: Carl Lamprecht
Reflection: I was able to draw a similarity between his proposed work and mine. The proposed tools have similar functions as intended in my work and the educational goal are similar (enhancement of collaboration). Carl highlighted the importance of remote learning and stated that "teachers would benefit greatly from an online platform for collaboration".
Details of Carl's' work can be found in his Blog post (Lamprecht, 2020).

Presentation 2
Title: Towards creative learning and interaction using advanced educational technologies in authentic contexts
Presenter: Nathan Joseph
Reflection: I was interested in Nathan's work to get multiple perspectives. He is working in the basic educational environment while I work in a higher institution of education. Nathan indicated the following when analysing his activity system "I am interested in writing a journal article on creative learning and interaction using advanced educational technologies in authentic contexts". I believe this is a sub-task that requires another activity system within his main goal, which should be related to his title that focuses on parents and learners as main subjects.
Details of Nathan's work can be found in his Blog post (Joseph, 2020).
Presentation 3
Title: Leveraging blogs to build an e-portfolio of real life problems and solutions in STEM for STEM undergraduate students.
Presenter: Pamela Chukwuemeka
Reflection: I was intrigued by the vastness of Pam's work. She proposes to target multiple Universities. This implies that there will be multiple activity systems in her context, working towards a shared goal. The analysis of her work using AODM however simplifies the task. She concluded by saying her "research findings will redefine approach to certain standards like the statutory “Industrial Training (IT) practices” and ways of assessment of these standards.
Details of Pam's work can be found in her Blog post (Chukwuemeka, 2020).
